Cougars advance to State
Championship next week at Pinehurst

One of the most successful seasons in Alexander Central history continued for the Cougar Golf Team on Monday, May 5, at Riverbend Golf Course in Shelby.

After closing out the NW4A Conference title with a 100-shot win, Alexander Central participated in the Western Regional event at Riverbend on Monday.

Alexander finished the day with a second place finish and will advance to next week’s NCHSAA State Championship Match at Pinehurst #6 in Pinehurst.

The state championship will be held on Monday, May 12, and Tuesday, May 13.

In Monday’s Regional, Alexan-der Central carded a team score of 307, finishing five shots behind Regional winner Providence High School.

Senior Brian Phaup turned in the low score for Alexander on the day, firing a 74.

Landon Pearson, who will be making his second appearance at the state championship next week, recorded a 77, while Andrew Crotts and Ben Gardner finished with matching scores of 78.
Brett Waters finished play with a 79, while Thomas Ferguson recorded a score of 84.

The official pairings for next week’s 4A State Champ-ionship were not available at presstime.

The pairings will be available online later this week at www.nchsaa.org.
