Yoder, Mayberry, Deal, Price
will fight for commissioner seats

According to unofficial results posted by the Alexander County Board of Elections staff, Democratic and Republican parties have nominated candidates for two Alexander County Commissioner seats up for grabs this November following the
May 6 primary election.
In the Republican race, challenger Ryan Mayberry received 1,415 votes (28.1 percent) and incumbent Larry Yoder received 1,362 votes (26.9 percent). In third place was William Hammer with 1,247 votes (24.7 percent), and fourth was Eric Bumgarner with 1,017 votes (20.2 percent).
The Democratic race saw Glenn P. Deal, Jr. as top vote-getter with 2.615 votes (34.9 percent), followed by Danny Price with 2,173 (29.0 percent). Rounding out the ballot were Scott Mitchell with 1,119 votes (14.9 percent), Lisa Rudisill Bradley with 964 votes (12.9 percent), and Cody Teague having 619 votes (8.3 percent).
Mayberry said of the nomination, “I
would like to thank the citizens who came out to vote. I also thank Mr. Hammer, Mr. Yoder, and Mr. Bumgarner for running a respectful race. I hope all of them will still be involved in serving the county in some aspect.”
Yoder stated, “I’m extremely pleased that the Republican Party has the confidence in me to nominate me for their candidate to Alexander County Commissioner in November. I appreciate the confidence they placed in me. I look forward to doing the best job I can to represent them and the county. It was a good election, and everyone kept it clean.”
Glenn Deal, Jr. made the following comment, “I’m very happy with the large turnout of voters. I appreciate the fact that I’m still in the running.”
Price was also thankful. “I’m glad that I won, and I hope that I can make an improvement in the county if I win in the fall. I would like to thank all my supporters who voted for me,” he related.
Results will not be final until Canvass Day, May 13.
