Love your new format on the website. I was born in Taylorsville 70 years ago and am the family historian. I read your paper every week for the obituaries so I can keep that history up to date. I find the information so helpful.

    Thank you so much!

Our county has meals for children 18 and under free in Alexander County. They say it is a Federal rule that they have to eat the entire meal there on site. If the child goes in and gets the meal what are they going to do with it?? If Alexander County’s Health and Nutrition is so worried about providing meals for children why should it matter if they need to take the food with them? I think the rules need to be changed, Do you care enough to have compassion on children? That is what is wrong with this world no one has empathy anymore. Schools send food home in backpacks with some children what is the difference. Please call if you agree with this 1-866-632-9992 or 828-632-7001

While I make my home in Huntington Beach,CA, Taylorsville occupies considerable real estate in my heart. Through the miracle of marriage 44 years ago to Dan Sharpe, I found myself welcomed and loved, wholly and unconditionally, by my new relatives! It was a wonderous time for me, a known, yet still appreciated, fact for Dan and siblings Terry, David, and Richard. These new relatives of mine, most of them born and raised in or around Taylorsville, offered every hospitality. Whether we lived in Chicago, Utah, or California, we came to Taylorsville as often as we could. We brought our son to Taylorsville when he was 2 months old. He’s now 38. Same with his brother. As often as possible. So many loving arms belonging to names like: Sharpe, Shook, Lackey, Gant, Cothern, Herman, Burgess, and more. My once “new” relatives became treasured and loved friends. Of course, over a span of 44 years, dear ones were born, and loved ones were buried. In August, the darling daughter of Dan’s cousin passed away. If you knew her, than I believe you’ve experienced a glimpse of Heaven. She glowed, inside and out. She was the best of her dad and mom, and please believe me, that is really something. She was like an essence you wish could be bottled. Her family, her husband, they have suffered the cruelest loss. No words exist to express our sympathy, or their pain. She is in Heaven, of that I am sure. I’m also sure that the people that make Taylorsville special will continue to go alongside her loved ones, as this family did for me so long ago.

    Love the Times.

Love Alexander County, but unfortunately for peace and quiet loving citizens who live here, not all of our fellow citizens love peace and quiet or respect their neighbors. An inconsiderate person has been shattering the peace and quiet in the Saint Clair road area with very loud and unnecessary gun shooting firing multiple loud shots from some rapid firing semi-automatic gun, as many as 10 to 30 at a clip. Sounds like a war zone. This person tends to do that right before dark as if to avoid being identified. This person seems to know this conduct is disturbing the surrounding residents. Not only does that inconsiderate conduct shatter the nerves of the he surrounding residents, it puts them in danger of being shot by a stray bullet. The Sheriff should find out who is doing that and have that person shoot elsewhere very far away from our peaceful neighborhood. Quiet loving Saint Clair road residents: Call the Sheriff when you are disturbed by that unnecessary and dangerous shooting. Perhaps that disturbance of the peace problem can be solved so we can live in peace.
